Children of the Nations Sierra Leone (COTN-SL) is a National Christian Non-Governmental Organization operating in the Upper Banta Chiefdom, Moyamba district with its headquarter office in Marjay town, Freetown. The vision of COTN-SL is to raise children that will transform nations. The Management of COTN-SL is seeking to recruit a Senior Finance Officer who has a passion and calling to work with orphaned and destitute children in this capacity:

JOB TITLE: Senior Finance Officer DEPARTMENT: Administration LOCATION: Ngolala Junction, Upper Banta Chiefdom, Moyamba District IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Finance Manager

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Key Responsibility: To provide a prudent and sustainable financial management and advice to the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Roles and Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and validate supporting documentation before processing of financial transactions to ensure all required documents are accurate and complete and authorizations are in place.
  • Ensure setup and maintenance of all data required for processing financial transactions for assigned accounts in financial accounting package.
  • Record financial transactions following appropriate authorizations. Review and analyze various accounts to detect irregularities. Advise on corrective actions and prepare correcting entries and adjustments, as necessary.
  • Monitor disbursement/receipt schedules, alert relevant staff of due payments/liquidations, and maintain appropriate communication and follow-up to facilitate timeliness of financial resource management.
  • Prepare various, periodic and financial reports according to the finance SOS, as needed, and perform variance analyses to assist with decision-making and proper management of financial resources.
  • Provide information to sub recipients and staff on financial accounting policies and procedural compliance issues and contribute to capacity strengthening.
  • Perform assigned treasury (cash payment/receipt, cash forecast, etc.) duties, as long as segregation of duties is ensured.
  • Review payroll computations before submitting to Finance Manager.
  • Provides support in the spiritual formation of the children in the program.
  • Carries out any other official assignment given by your supervisor.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.A. degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration with courses in accounting, or a part 2 qualification in accounting (CPA/ACCA or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 5 yearsโ€™ experience in a position with similar responsibilities, preferably with an international or local NGO, or a financial/banking institution

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the relevant donorsโ€™ regulations preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiar with QuickBooks accounting software system. Knowledge of Project Insight is a plus.

  • Excellent analytical skills with ability to detect and report inconsistencies.
  • Accuracy and completeness with great attention to detail
  • Ethical conduct in accordance with recognized professional and organizational codes of ethics
  • Proactive, resourceful, solutions oriented and results oriented.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and in a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet financial reporting deadlines.

Note, successful candidate will have to relocate at the operational site to perform official duties. Address, Upper Banta Chiefdom, Moyamba District.
