| General mission | Under the supervision of the National Logistician, the Driver is responsible for providing timely, efficient, and safe transportation for the project team. The role is crucial for helping the team achieve its objectives within the contractual deadlines set by donors. |
- Driving and vehicle managementÂ
- Organize transportation for the project team and supplies.
- Ensure all journeys are pre-authorized and recorded in the vehicle logbook at the start and end of each trip.
- Comply with vehicle allocation for staff in consultation with the Logistics Assistant.
- Maintain and update all vehicle documentation, including license and insurance.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Keep the vehicle clean, inside and out.
- Maintain the whiteboard with the approved movement plan.
- Vehicle maintenance and checksÂ
- Conduct daily vehicle checks every morning before use, completing the provided checklist and filing it accordingly.
- Regularly check vehicle oil, water, tire pressure, battery, and brakes.
- Report any vehicle defects, damages, near misses, or abnormalities to the National Logistician immediately.
- Supervise all maintenance and repairs for the assigned vehicle at the garage.
- Ensure the vehicle is equipped with a full safety kit, including a first-aid kit, reflective vest, and fire extinguisher.
- Safety and securityÂ
- Ensure all passengers wear seat belts before driving.
- Report any accidents or incidents to the Line Manager immediately and to the appropriate authorities as soon as possible.
- Keep vehicle keys and documents in a secure place when the vehicle is not in use. â˘Â Adhere to all SOLTHIS and donor visibility protocols.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONSÂ
| Education & Experience | â˘Â Completion of Junior Secondary School with a BECE certificate. â˘Â Formal driver training with a valid Sierra Leone driverâs license. â˘Â At least three years of professional driving experience, preferably with an international NGO, UN agency, or humanitarian organization. â˘Â Demonstrated record of safe driving. â˘Â Experience driving both manual and automatic vehicles |
| Knowledge &  skills | â˘Â Strong knowledge of driving rules, regulations, and local roads. â˘Â Good understanding of transport services and ability to coordinate routes. â˘Â Ability to perform minor vehicle repairs and assess mechanical fitness. â˘Â Basic knowledge of English. â˘Â Good report writing, communication, and interpersonal skills. â˘Â Willingness to work after hours on short notice. â˘Â Ability to perform any other duties as requested |
REMUNERATIONÂ
- Salary will be based on the Solthis salary scale and will depend on prior experience in a similar role.
