The Aberdeen Women’s Centre (AWC) is a Non-Governmental charitable hospital located in Aberdeen, Freetown providing free surgical services to the women of Sierra Leone for correction of disorders arising from protracted labor; we are also providing free maternity services and an outpatient pediatric clinic for children between birth and fifteen years old.

For its operations, AWC is looking for qualified Sierra Leoneans to fill the following position:

Position:       Mechanic/Driver

Job Type:       Full time

Job Location:     Aberdeen Freetown

Department:       Maintenance

Reports to:       Maintenance Supervisor

Job Overview of the Role

The Successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring functionality and reliability of generators, engines and vehicles. Takes pride in vehicles that are well maintained and operated safely and efficiently.

 

Specific Roles

  • Assist the Chief Mechanic with all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Assist in the monitoring of generator fuel levels, oil changes and regular generator maintenance and repairs as required
  • Assist the Chief Mechanic with the sourcing and purchasing of broken/spare parts.
  • Assist with other aspects of general maintenance and repair of AWC property and AWC Team House
  • Report any safety issues and matters requiring attention to the Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor.
  • Keep the Mechanic’s areas/garage clean at all times.
  • Any other duties as requested by the Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor or the Management
  • Drive vehicles with total awareness and safety, avoiding any damage to AWC vehicles and collisions with pedestrians. other vehicles, and property
  • Be available at all times to drive AWC vehicles when required
  • Assist in the monitoring of vehicle fuel levels, oil changes and minor maintenance as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of vehicles, inside and out.
  • Report any safety issues, accidents, or maintenance requirements promptly to the Maintenance Supervisor
  • Must be willing to take screening teams to remote areas of Sierra Leone.

 

Personnel Specifications Required

Essential 

  • Intermediate mechanical skills /experience
  • Valid drivers’ license
  • Good attitude, willingness to work hard and to learn
  • Strong attention to detail
  • At least one year experience in similar role
  • Able to communicate effectively in both Krio and English

 

Desirable

  • Ability to establish goals, structures and processes necessary to implement the organisation’s mission and strategic vision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organisational skills.
