VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Position: School Matron

Employment: Full-Time, Residential Residence: Must stay on campus throughout the school term until the end of term.

Olive B. Academy, an all-girls Christian boarding school in Kerry Town, Freetown, is seeking a caring, firm, responsible, and mature School Matron to support the welfare, supervision, discipline, and pastoral care of our boarding students.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate should:

• Be a committed Christian with strong moral character and good values.
• Be willing to live and work on campus throughout the school term.
• Have good English communication skills, both spoken and basic written communication.
• Be caring, nurturing, patient, and able to serve as a positive mother figure to students.
• Be firm and disciplined, with the ability to enforce school and boarding rules fairly and consistently.
• Have good interpersonal, listening, observation, and basic counselling skills.
• Be trustworthy, discreet, responsible, and able to handle sensitive student matters appropriately.
• Be attentive to students' physical, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing.
• Be able to identify and report concerns relating to illness, bullying, safeguarding, emotional distress, or behavioural changes.
• Basic first-aid knowledge will be an advantage.

Education & Experience

• A qualification or relevant training in Pastoral Care, Social Work, Nursing, Counselling, Education, Psychology, Religious Studies, Childcare, or a related field will be an advantage.
• Previous experience as a School Matron, Housemother, Nurse, Social Worker, Teacher, Counsellor, Boarding Supervisor, or in a similar student-welfare role will also be an advantage.

Main Responsibilities

The Matron will be responsible for:

• Providing pastoral care, guidance, and emotional support to students.
• Supervising students and maintaining discipline within the boarding environment.
• Monitoring students' welfare, hygiene, personal care, and general wellbeing.
• Conducting regular checks of dormitories and student living areas.
• Ensuring students follow established boarding routines and schedules.
• Supporting students experiencing homesickness, illness, emotional difficulties, or other welfare concerns.
• Working closely with Management, the School Nurse, teachers, and relevant staff on student welfare matters.
• Maintaining a safe, structured, caring, and well-supervised residential environment.
